What is a Wellbeing and Reassurance Baby scan?
As pregnancy progresses, it’s completely natural for expectant mothers to seek extra reassurance that everything is developing as it should.
Whether there are concerns such as pain, bleeding or simply a feeling that something isn’t quite right, a Wellbeing and Reassurance Scan can provide quick clarity, offering insight into how the baby is doing, confirming a healthy environment for development and identifying whether any further action is needed.
During the scan, the baby will be carefully examined from head to toe, with detailed measurements taken to ensure healthy growth. If required, blood flow between mother and baby will also be assessed for added reassurance.
We will additionally review the mother’s uterus and the position of the placenta to support a complete understanding of maternal and fetal wellbeing.
How is the scan performed?
This is a trans-abdomenal scan, with an ultrasound probe gently gliding over the abdomen.
What will the scan examine?
This scan will check for fetal wellbeing and growth, amniotic fluid and the position of placenta, cervical length if indicated and exclude any obvious fetal abnormalities during that stage.

What are the preparations for this scan?
Full bladder will help us to get better images so please drink 4 glasses of water one hour before your appointment.
